Thankfully it's just a promise ring. I don't truly believe the IRGC or the Mullahs will negotiate in good faith going forward. They will certainly make no commitments and if by some chance they do, they won't honor them. This is just another stall tactic on their part. We should keep the blockade up and keep bombing the IRGC and military infrastructure.

So Trump signed the Treaty of Versailles 2.0 today! I'm sure it is even better than the original (because everybody knows the original Treaty of Versailles was so dang awesome)! And this one is even better because the original rewarded the victors of the war and punished the loser. This punishes the victor and rewards the loser. How great is that?!?!

So, after reading what is in the MOU I have come to the firm conclusion that it sucks rocks. I was under the silly impression that we were winning and that we would be able to dictate terms. Apparently, I was gravely misinformed. We made all the concessions and they get time and money. Brilliant!!!

How appropriate that he signed this POS at Versailles. Like Inor said, we all know how that first treaty signed there worked out. I am betting this will work out pretty much the same way.

Trump fucked this one up big time.
Doesn't matter if the MOU is good or bad.

The entire Islamic Regime, not just the IRGC, are terrorist jihadists that want to eliminate everything that isn't them, starting with us.

They were severely weakened militarily, economically, with internal infighting; they were ripe for being overthrown by the resistance.

The opportunity was there to eliminate them completely and Trump instead resuscitated them. Fuck him.

              Absolutely agree on this.

So I am trying to make sense of this. But what I know about geopolitics, foreign policy, etc would fit on the head of a pin with room to spare.

Yes it looks like we offered them the world's biggest olive branch and we got nothing for it. As I understand the MOU it is contingent on some conditions, including a cease-fire, as well as nuclear oversight in Iran. And if they break the MOU terms, then it is null and void.

The $300 billion I think was frozen assets that belonged to Iran that we will un-freeze. I am not clear if that will be released in milestones, or all at once. If it is released in some structured way, maybe Trump is offering Iran some incentive to play nice.

He may also be posturing for more support to go back to bombing them. Show the world that we "tried" working with them but they can't straighten up. This assumes DJT believes Iran CAN"T hold their end of the deal. If they do, then we just sucked ass on this deal.

Other factor I am sure he is looking at are the upcoming Midterms. If the current situation with the blockade and everything lasted another couple months, and gas remains high or goes higher, than all but guaranteed the demonrats will win control of the Senate and Congress, DJT can't get anything done for 2 years, and we will NEVER get another republican majority again.

Last issue I see, is that the whole world just seen that we can't finish a war properly. And we are behind the 8 ball on anti-drone technology that doesn't cost us $9 million every time we destroy a $20,000 drone. China, Russia, and NOKO all observed this.

Future wars will be drone wars, and we aren't ready.

No. The $300 billion figure is what Trump said the US would allow others to invest to rebuild Iran, if they choose to. This figure comes from his meetings with the heads of the Gulf states.

I am not clear if that will be released in milestones, or all at once. If it is released in some structured way, maybe Trump is offering Iran some incentive to play nice.
Iran's financial assets (~24B) that are frozen would be released in increments over time after the Final Deal (that must be signed within 60 days) if and only if they have proven themselves capable of playing nice...

I used to think (hope) that this was his plan, but No.
His ego is too fucking big to admit he can't do a deal.

Other than getting some MAGA candidates elected and the SAVE act passed - I don't think he gives a shit about the political side of his last 2 years.

Yeah, but this wasn't really a "War" like we were "at war" with Iran. We just wanted the nukes gone.

Agree re drones. Look at what Ukraine is doing to Russia. They're about to take Crimea back and Moscow is burning at the moment.

the thing is, this is all contingent on Iran sticking to the deal, (which none of us believe they will) It is entirely possible that this is just a way for Trump to get justification for actually following through on his promise. We struck the first time out-of-the-blue. If they break the deal, Trump could shrug and say well, we tried. If Iran can't uphold a lopsided deal in their favor, then, splat em!

Either way.... the deal (an arrangement to promise to agree to terms on a future possible agreement about a real deal) is bull butter.

I am pretty sure we should have turned their sandbox to glass decades ago. That's what I know for sure.

I believe you are right. But yet, here we are. I think the only semi-clean way out of this is to hope the Iranians break the agreement, then we beat the tar out of them, with alot more support than we had. I know I keep bringing this up, but I GUARANTEE the midterms are playing alot more of a role in this conflict than they should. As I said before, we lose in Nov, we lose for good. Mark my words.

The Ayatollah's funeral should get a flyover by a few C5As equipped with rear door manure spreader and full payload of pig shit.

The terrorist regime is already breaking it by demanding Trump throw Israel under the bus. And if he does, you can move me into the TDS category.

And you're right about the midterms.

I agree there is a lot of politics involved. Big oil has been pushing, the economy is not as good as Wall Street would have you believe, inflation is still way too high, and the republicans in for battles this Fall I am sure have been clamoring for a quick resolution. (as it is I think the republicans are going to take a bath this fall putting an end to Trump's agenda) Now, as suggested he may be waiting on Iran to fuck it up so he can go back in with more support. I don't know that that's the case. It looks more like he committed to this thinking it would be quick and now that Iran has shown to be somewhat resilient he needs an off ramp. I can't help but feel had we kept going full tilt this would be done by now. one way or the other. The only way we win this is through regime change, and at this point, after Iran has a chance to regroup and put money back in the coffers, I think it unlikely that will happen.

During WW2 we inflicted tremendous suffering on the civilians of both Germany and Japan by bombing the shit out of em. But we won with unconditional surrender. The exact same should have applied here. These half measures and unwillingness to inflict pain on the normal citizens is gonna come back and bite us in the toosh.
