Finally starting to green up down here

We had sub-freezing temperatures for several days in a row, unheard of here in S Central FL. Killed off a LOT of vegetation, and turned my pastures from slow growing to non growing. Been having to put out hay for the horses since then. Finally got some rain, and the temps are back to normal so the grass is starting to green up. Time to get that 3/4 ton of fertilizer out and spread it.

How many hay burners ya got? Riding horses or work horses ?

I assume you are fertilizing 5-8 acres?

This time around 4 acres- appx 400 lbs/acre. We rotate what fields get fertilized, they're on a 3 year schedule

Sparky- what are you using? I have 17-2-8 I got from Diamond R- $24.50/50 lb bag

He's doing ok for what it is. Don't sell him short AFA horses go- He's one of the guys who built Knoll Farms in Brentwood, was a big riding concern that just recently fell to development. He's worked for a few other stables as well.

Oh and yes, I'm from Long Island, but spent my time commercial fishing and clamming with my father's family, and dairy farming etc with my Mother's family in upstate NY- Not the typical LI childhood. We had horses on the Island as well
