I've not done anything yet, just starting the topic.

I have a seed inventory from last year , need to update that and buy anything I'm missing.

Hope to have tomato , pepper, summer squash, cukes seeds in soon, so the seedlings have grown well before last frost date here (mid-late May). Also want to get frost tolerant plant seeds in to put out late April-Early May (broccoli, cabbage, kale, lettuce).

I'm starting one this year. I talked about it for too many years, spring always got past me. I see food issues looming, need to keep in front of it.

My pepper starts are doing well. Started tomatoes today. Looking forward to that first home grown tomato!

I need to completely regrade my yard this year. It was dug up in January when a water pipe burst, and the well guy dug up half the yard looking for the break.

Sparky, were they direct seeded? In the fall here we cover stuff up with whatever we have. I get big lumber covers for free I mostly use on woodpiles doubled or tripled up folds. But they work great on the garden too. I've had covered non-sensitive stuff get 6" snow, it warms up and they grow 2-3 more weeks.


For a small seedling patch recycle or storage totes work good. I know you have livestock, a 50- 100- gal water trough will cover a lot .

In the last week I started my sweet pepper seeds and my tomato seeds. Last year I started replacing my wood raised beds with galvanized steel raised beds. I still have one long wood bed to do and I already have the replacement steel beds in my garage unassembled. Now with all the doom and gloom forecasts, debating if I should squeeze one more year out of the old bed and install the new beds as an addition to increase total growing space. I’m thinking much of the famine predictions are bulkshit. Maybe in other countries, but not so much here in the USA. We produce much of our own fertilizer. It may get expensive but it should be available. I hate watching the news anymore. Never know who you can believe cause everyone has an agenda.

I started digging out and removing the old wood raised bed and installing the 6 new galvanized 40 x 40 inch beds. I’m getting old! I could only get 2 done before i pooped out. My body can’t do heavy labor anymore. So going to try to do at least one each day, maybe 2 if my back holds out. I have most of my seeds started, but for some reason they are growing extremely slowly this year. Most germinated fine but but real slow pokes growing.

Going to try some vertical potato towers this year.
Also, due to the rat problem here.... If I can figure out a decent way to do upside down tomato buckets.... by that I mean not visually horrible.

Won't get here in time for this year but they were on sale. I've been watching them for a while hoping they would go on sale.
I'll use them to create another garden area so I can better rotate crops.

They are not necessarily as "attractive" but check you local Tractor Supply or Rural King for similar products.. But my guess is it would rarely go on sale there.
