I was at the checkout at Ace hardware the other day, had bins with different flavored jerky treats, one of those impulse buy setups, they looked really good, they were for dogs. Well crap, good enough for a dog, good enough for me! Kidding, they did look like people food tho. C'mon, how bad could they be?

I used to buy plain jane white rawhide chews for our dog, store ran out so got the flavored kind, after having those, tried going back to the plain jane kind, he'd give me the , what kind of shit are you trying to pull on me, look.

My dogs get a smoked lambs ear every morning after their breakfast kibble. Once that pattern was established it was set in stone. Less greasy than pigs ears, not all chemical soaked like rawhides. Both dogs are ten years old and have never needed a dental cleaning because of the daily lambs ears. They do get premium USA harvested and processed ones - no imports for them.

Ya know what, growing up it seems like we never bought "store bought dog food food" , they ate our leftovers and loved it. After my last dog passed, who ate store bought for the most part, I feel bad I didn't feed him better. Meaning food tasting so good he almost couldn't gulp down fast enough vs food he'd eat cause his belly was making noises. Hindsight to our best friends.

I split the difference. Duke gets good dog food, dry; his bowl is always full - and I'll top it off with bits from our dinner and he learned early not to beg at the table. I also share my sandwiches with him when PO ain't watching, lol, and popcorn is fun.

I love how the manufactures try to make it sound so appealing. Like the dog is going to know the difference between slow roasted beef or steam pressed shit. I have watched my dog eat bugs, chew on a snake, and a mole. Hell he even ate a couple wasps as they stung his tongue. Now there is a dog of discerning taste for ya.
