Hey guys, haven't been on in a while. While researching something on eFlea I came across this book Where There Is No Psychiatrist: A Mental Health Care Manual by Vikram Patel. I assume it's similar to the Where there is no doctor book. I think if the book is worth anything it would be an asset to a group's library. If someone seems to be more emphatic than others they could be the camp counselor. If SHTF really bad then some people may need someone to talk to.

I agree. Our culture is a LOT less capable of handling stress than we were even when I was a kid. If/when we are presented with a real challenge, I expect a lot of people are just going to shut down. Add to that, how out of physical shape most folks are now, it brings in the likelihood of actual physical brain damage caused by bad diet, etc.

Honestly, I think this is a bigger challenge than even most of the physical issues we talk about here.

I often joke about keeping my tractor battery fully charged and having a good set of jumper cables to be able to perform my own "at home electro-shock-therapy". But like so many things in life, we laugh because it's funny and we laugh because it's true.

I think more then just a few people will be in shut down mode when the hammer falls. They will be unable to coup having been brought up with everything given to them and all the amenities they had. Think about it, no TV, no smart phone, tablets, computers, or worse, no drugs. That alone will send millions into a coma. Most people these days are not tough minded, even the ghetto rats and the poor have access to all the modern conveniences.

I wonder if this mental health issue is due to the fact that kids and adults have been brainwashed to think they have to be so concerned over eveyrthing in everyday life. Just give it up, you don't have to care/be obsessed about every stinking problem on earth!

I was majoring in psychology before I went into radio, so I understand this stuff pretty well. Probably a good book to have as a resource. I do own the doctor book.

What is blowing me away these days is watching these police videos on YT. These kids (20-30yo) who get arrested and then start demanding the cops call their mom. I get everyone gets a phone call but this is while they're still on the ground being wrestled into cuffs by the cops. Like they think mommy is going to come save them from jail.

They are the psychiatrist . . . sociologist . . . and the other coon faced idiots who think they can outthink a brain.

Nut cases have shown quite predictably that they are nuttier than a fruitcake . . . and you'll never dig all the nuts out of that fruitcake . . . no matter how hard you try.

We have invented so called diseases when the important person was being tried for murder . . . they had this disorder / that disorder / or the other disorder.

We even let mothers drown or sufficate hundreds of babies and young children . . . pat em on the butt . . . tell them we love them . . . and don't do it again . . . and in many cases . . . they DO DO IT AGAIN. . . AND AGAIN . . . AND AGAIN . . . AD INFINITIM . . . AD NAUSEUM

We need to burn down the offices of these nut case doctors . . . put them in chains on the road gang . . . burn the books they've authored . . . and dare anyone else to start it up again . . . hang em by the neck until dead if they do.

The whole mental doctoring crap is just that . . . crap. Their recividism rate runs in the high 90 percentages . . . and it is our tax dollars that is being spent thru insurance to attempt to make a human out of a nut.

Build secure lock ups . . . anyone acting like a nut . . . goes to the nut house . . . and comes out when they are graveyard dead . . .

We'll say a few words over them . . . toss dirt on the casket . . . and clean out their cell for the next one that needs it.

Then since you don't like what I wrote . . . find a 100% guarantee that I am wrong . . . 5,800 years of being hooman beans . . . we got along without such stupidity . . . we certainly can again if we pull up our britches and get on with the task.

Sorry Dwight, I disagree simply because it is unconstitutional. Where would we draw the line? I suffer from clinical depression, meaning it does not go away. I have to take medication. Would someone with depression or bipolar, etc get locked up for no fault of their own or just when they break a law? Seriously, should I be called a racist for calling a hoodrat a nigger even though I don't hate all black people?
