    Screw-ups using AI

    This dang near started WWIII
US Troops were scrambled on an AI hallucination.

(This is the YT site I monitor for world conflicts,
First 5 minutes are about Russia, Ukraine; the last part of the vid details Europe's preparations for a Russian invasion)

This AI screw-up would have involved the US and China

    Watch from 5:10 to 7:55.

At first I didn't get what you meant by, read the new thread, from the data center thread. Well, when that happens, here's what you do, bend over, put your head between your legs and kiss your ass good-bye.

Kinda amazing that movies from years ago depicted what is going on now. Were those guys psychic or what? Yeah, my spelling is bad.

Isn't this the way stuff often gets out of hand, and cannot be disregarded/totally dismissed, and a knee jerk reaction to a false positive seems like the correct response.

Here's another screw-up that could happen to any of us

Tennessee Grandmother Sues Fargo City and Police After Spending Six Months in Jail over AI Mistaken Identity.

The City of Fargo, North Dakota now faces the legal wrath of a Tennessee grandmother in the form of a federal lawsuit filed this week that alleges police improperly relied on AI facial recognition to accuse her of bank theft and jail her for six months last year. | Law and Order

Ok, maybe change it to mishaps? Joking, leave it as is. Just when I see the words screw I think your poking fun at me, which is all well and good, I laugh at myself all the time

We have almost gone nuclear several times with Russia since the cold war. I imagine AI makes the mistake harder to detect and accelerates the process.

That is so absurd it bothers me that I spent 3 seconds of my time reading it. Good post tho, just to show how gullible people are.

IF that's a real transaction attempt and not just a fabbed up image - then probably. Hackers using AI are supposedly targeting financial institutions now.

            What could possibly go wrong?

The FAA is preparing to launch an AI air-traffic control tool called Smart as soon as Monday, starting with a debut in the Washington, DC area before a wider rollout across the country.

What the hell is this all about? They're still using windows 95 and floppy disks. On the bright side they picked the perfect area to do a test run.

Is the narration of that video also AI? Who says "the US President of the United States"? Is there a US President of some other country?

So how do data centers make their money? Are they the ones that compile and sell data to marketers, or does the gubbermint subsidize them? Or do data brokers pay for access and they are the ones that compile the data and sell it?

My pea-brain can't seem to figure out how in the world they make enough money to be built and maintained... ?

Two ways come to mind ~
They can sell server space like Amazon does (AWS); and they can sell collected data via subscriptions (access) to private companies and gov agencies.

Every time you use ChatGPT or any other service like that . . . a data center gets a cut. I subscribe to OpenArt . . . and part of that subscription goes to a data center somewhere. Lots of little guys . . . paying a little . . . adds up in the long run . . .

              May God bless,
              Dwight

I watched a documentary once where they were allowed into the missile silos and when asked about still using the old technologies the military guy showing them around said they do that because they can't be hacked. Floppy discs can't be hacked. Each silo is hard wired to the central command center. He obviously didn't go into details but he assured that there were redundancies and that if given the proper authority, rest assured, the missiles would launch. Pretty cool shit actually.
