Last nite was particularly bad and this morning it is pouring down rain. I’m thinking, how do I handle an outage or other serious problem when I’m suffering some kind of painful health issue? I’m on the throne and just partially completed my morning bathroom business when the lights go out! The storm must have caused an accident or a tree to come down. So the immediate problem is how to wipe in total darkness? Also! How do you know when said wiping is satisfactorily completed? Maybe I just smeared shit all over my ass 😳. So lesson one for today is a flashlite must be prepositioned in the bathroom. After the “clean up” I got the battery bank switched on to give us basic lites and the router. Notice that I’ve previously posted about storing your power station at only a partial charge. Mine is currently at 35%. I’m almost at sunrise now so very shortly I’ll need to drag out the genny and charge the Bluetti up. Luckily a heavy dose of painkillers has my discomfort at manageable levels so dragging out the honda and hookup shouldn’t be too hard. But kind of funny that I was thinking about a power outage at the exact moment the lites went out. And also curious that the outage happened when I’m sick and hurting.
Another hole in my preps that will need to get fixed.

BTW Chiefster23, sounds like you were in a "shitty" situation! Hope everything "came out" ok!!

Another emergency lighting we have -
In his early prepping days PO had bought a crate full of three inch pillar candles; when I gave up canning I had dozens of pint sized jars. Now, in every room, there's a candle in a jar with a lighter next to it.
      Very safe, sufficiently effective.

That is so smart, I have emergency candles but how do I find them in the dark?

We’ve had 2 power outages in the last month or so. (Posted above). The electric company notified us that today we will have another lasting about 8 hours. I suspect they are making a permanent repair to replace a temporary repair made as a result if the most recent outage. I’ve refined my blackout response using experience from the previous 2 outages So today should go smooth as silk. These blackouts are giving me valuable intel on just what my power station is capable of. And also what the real-world capabilities of my solar system batteries are. After outage #2 I decided I needed a 50 foot 10 gage extension cord. I have that now so today should go perfectly smooth.

A wise man told me once "One test is worth a thousand expert opinions".

I do the same think, every minor SHTF event, power outage, dead car battery, etc. is a chance to test, evaluate, and refine the plan.

I have the Genny out in the pole barn. I pull it outside, ground it, either pull the cord or battery start it., hook up the cord to the barn fuse box. Disconnect the main fuse box from power line, throw the switch and enjoy electric
