Anyone somewhat computer savvy

Bought a new desktop a couple months ago. Suddenly its telling me my Norton anti-virus is up. Thought I got it for free for a year but you know they lie.

So should I pay for it are there other security features that handle it?

They want $35. for the first year and $120. after that.

What say you OTP computer geek trust?

I just use Windows Defender, and I do have a free version of Spybot Search & Destroy. I run Spybot every day, defender I think I have it set to 1X week.

I am EXTREMELY careful about opening emails with attached files, unless I know damn well its from a trusted source. Other thing I do, is every single log-in I have for anything on-line, I use a custom random password. Think "HHD7vc89#11h#ZZ" and every site is different. Anything I pay online with a Debit or CC, I always use the option of "Do-Not-Remember" whereas I have to enter the card every time.

Also I try to avoid sketchy sites like www.sasquatch_and_midget_porn.com and stuff.

So far this has worked for me. YMMV...

I personally choose to run Eset Home Security Premium on the Winblows computers here. I used to use some of the free services on some computers for the lighter users and only run Eset on my machines, but I recently moved them all to Eset. Eset has a long history of consistently very good performance and decently light load on the system.

Norton is something I would throw in the trash. I haven't looked at it in a number of years. Last time I had to endure a Norton product ( consumer and commercial versions ) it was a system resource pig and wasn't all that great at protection. I don't imagine they have changed their stripes.

For a long time I used Avast, its free. Now I just use windows defender and Nord vpn. Really, how much security does a normal person need? If you're paranoid then go for something high end, personally I don't think its necessary. I don't store any sensitive info on my laptop. I do use a thumb drive for important stuff.

I'll have to have my son set something like that for me. On my old computer I probably could've done it. I can't find anything on this new puter. It's like they try to frustrate you. 🤯🤯🤯

I've run AVG for maybe 20 years . . . has been good for me

Bought Norton one time . . . way back when . . . took an hour to load . . . took 5 minutes every time I started the computer . . . and sometimes longer.

I uninstalled it . . . tossed it . . . and regretted the 90 bucks I wasted on that trash

I am using Windows defender and the free version of Malwarebytes. Good enough for me. I stopped going to MidgetPorn.com years ago.

I'm probably the last person you'd think would go the Apple computer route, but...The MacBook Air that I have used for last number of years is the absolute BEST computer I've ever had.
