I learned a thing today (the hard way)

Thanks to hurricane Polo, it is too rainy to be outside doing stuff today. So I thought I would work inside on some computer stuff. The computer stuff I work on these days requires a lot of "hurry up and wait". I.E. Starting a process that runs for a quite a while and wait for it to finish. So I thought in the down time I would try a new formula for some sammich rolls.

The problem was, the formula requires "rice flour". I didn't even know there was such a thing until I discovered this formula a couple days ago. Not having any "rice flour" but having several buckets of rice, I thought I could just grinder the rice up in the wheat grinder and make flour from it... Very bad idea!

It ground for about 5 minutes then completely jammed up the wheat grinder! It took me almost an hour to get all the rice kernels cleaned out of it to even get it to work again. So now I am back to grinding wheat again (just to test it and make sure I didn't break it for real). So far, so good... But I guess we are just going to be eating normal wheat sammich rolls tonight.

Grinding rice into flour requires some kind of special something that I am unaware of.

It was in the Book of Big Bread. They don't talk about grinders though...

Check Pheonix and Tucson . . . bet there is a "china town" in one of them . . . if not both.

Or . . . just buy it off Ebay . . . I have to do that for some special flour my wife wants . . . it's only money until Ebay converts it into what you want.

          May God bless,

Rice flour is not going to do anything good for sandwich taste or texture.

Looks more like a rice version of corn meal . . .
