So along with everything else, the A/C for the house has been declining in efficiency. Had a contract, but Covid kind of screwed that up and it fell by the wayside. Did the usual, cleaned the condenser coils, have changed the filters, etc but not enough. I'm certified, but haven't touched a home unit in at least 5 years. Had a friend come over and look at it and say it needed replacement. A while later, another friend looked and threw gauges on it and gave me what he had in gas. Made it better,but not quite there. Ordered gas for it, and it arrived in 2 days. I didn't want to bother him again, so the hunt began. I haven't used this style gauge set of my own in 30+ years, since we switched cars and trucks to 134a. I KNOW I own at least 3 sets for it, but not using them and then moving....anyone's guess where they ended up. Finally found the most ancient set that I kept (I have 3 better ones) and hooked it all up and purged them. House is back to being whatever temp I set it for, and it's awesome. I HAVE to finish sorting out my tools! Getting there, but it's a lot to go through

I quit AC work when I moved from maintenance to management back in the early 90's. Still have an old set of gauges somewhere around here . . .
With the new mediums . . . don't know the pressures . . . just ain't foolin with it.
Did a "re charge" on my Jeep Liberty a few years back . . . my repairman does the rest . . . and is fairly reasonable.

Totally understand the finding things after moving. I've been in the new place a full two years now. Still haven't found everything and certainly don't have my garage workspaces all sorted out yet. Not helping that I still have a giant stack of solar panels in there waiting for the solar company and the electric utility company to finish fighting and the lawn tractor and accessories waiting for the new shed to go up, but this darn work thing is the biggest time suck.Comment

Yeah, I retired when I came down here, then the place my Wife went to work for asked me to come in to help them a little. She figured out it was a shitshow, and she knows that dealing with shitshows and turning them into smooth running operations is what I do. They asked me to come in "A few hours a day, a few days a week" Now it's up to 4 days a week, 6-8 hrs, non=stop putting out fires and reorganizing how they do things. Every time I say I've had enough, they throw more money at me. Problem is, it's hard to get to all the stuff I need to do here taken care of
