    So in addition to my plasma cutter woes I mentioned in one of the other posts, my Omniturn (CNC retrofit lathe) decided that its going to start throwing random over-current faults when I try to decelerate the spindle. It had about a 3 second decel rate from about 3000 rpm's, and the drive had an external braking resistor. So I was kind of hoping that the external resistor was failing, and the internal braking resistor in the drive couldn't handle it, so I ordered a new resistor. $50 bucks. It came Friday, so yesterday AM I wired it in, fired up the machine, went to run a part, and it went into over-current again.

    So I have the joy of spending $400 on a replacement VFD. Yay me...

    I should be back up and running Wednesday.

      Oh great joy!!! Now the pressure regulator on my compressed air system had a sticking relief valve. Of course it sticks open. And its an Ingersoll Rand, not some harbor freight chicom shit. Less than 3 years old, and I run a filter and water separator before air reaches the regulator. Another $150 flyin out the wallet.

      Good grief, if it ain't broke it ain't mine! Need more beer!

          So the saga continues...

          Yesterday I started a order for 12 pcs of a upset punch, D2 tool steel, 1/2" round, 2-1/4" long, with a kinda funky chisel point, angles, radii, etc. When I got the PO for the job I planned it out, ordered some small endmills I needed that I did not have on hand, just so when I go to run it, everything is here.

          Customer supplied material, usually if the job has complexity or tight tolerances I will make an extra, so I made 13 pcs. Op 1 on the Omniturn lathe went fine. Op 2, face off the end with the head, goes fine. I put the pcs in a box to move them to the mill for Op 3,4, and 5. Realized I only had 12 pcs, not 13. When I run Omniturn or manual lathe stuff, I have a small bench between the 2 machines where I put my parts. Looked all over the bench, nothing.

          Maybe I walked somewhere with it in my hand, set it down, forgot? Can't remember. So I checked the computer desk, the toolbox, the cabinet where I started pulling fixturing for the mill, nothing. Checked the surface plate, the other bench, and the floor around the bench they were on. Still nothing.

          End of the day, now I'm pissed, drink beer.

          This morning, do another extensive search. Nothing. So later, I decided I need to dump chips from both lathes. Under the bench is a 5 gallon bucket just for grabbing chips to put them in the barrel outside. It was 2/3 full, so I went to dump it into the barrel. Clunk! 13th missing part rolled off the bench and fell into the chip bucket, so I never heard it hit the floor, and it wasn't on the floor when I looked.

          Yay me! Small victories are still victories.

          1/2 hr later, as I am writing the program for the CNC mill to cut the chisel point, I realized I ordered the endmills based on the metric dimension. Of course it's too big for the inch dimension (listed above the metric one on the print). Grrr, more money, have to order them, and it will be a few extra days.

          Shift to next project, shipping some parts to an out-of-state customer. Finished up the box, went to create the UPS label. Grabbed a digital bathroom scale to weigh the box, scale won't turn on. No extra batteries, I get the meter out, both batteries test like they are full charged, think the scale died.

          Small victory had a short life span...

          Well, at least you know where the beer fridge is and that it's fully stocked. Come to think of it, that might be where I lift that thingamajig I was looking for yesterday.
